Tom Brownsword lives in Stuttgart which is not far from where I am (or was). I’m writing this post on Sunday (in Germany) to be published on Wednesday (I should be back in Indiana now). Tom & I got together one day in Heidelberg last month. Tom was actually the person I went to meet when I wrote All Roads Lead to Ausfahrt. It’s always nice to meet someone who has a clue about an Internet business.
I just spent about 15 minutes at Tom’s blog reading his most recent posts. He had some really good ones. I should visit more often and I just added him to my blogroll as a reminder. My favorite was A Threatening Spammer Too Humorous To Ignore If you didn’t know, Tom is a certified computer security professional. His response to this spammer was so funny I stumbled it. Hopefully he’ll get some traffic from Stumble Upon.
In any event, Tom sent me an eye-opening message last week. He referred to the 24 Hour Special I had last week and he said the offer was “simply brilliant” but he didn’t order because he didn’t want to deal with my ordering process.
It made me wonder how many sales I was losing because people couldn’t order or were frustrated and didn’t order. Several people have reported difficulty and that probably means there are more who didn’t report their problems. Any way you slice it, it’s not good for business.
One solution is to give visitors another choice for ordering. Some people prefer to use PayPal and the PayPalKunaki script allows them to order through PayPal. Others prefer to use a credit card. They can use the regular Kunaki checkout system. I’ve now put a link at the top of the order page that says something like “This is a PayPal form. Click here to order with a credit card.”
Of course I promptly thanked Tom for his input and sent him the order link but by the time he got it the special was over. He’ll still get the special…and he’ll get it for $50 instead of $100 to thank him. If you have any suggestions and I use them, I’ll probably give you a big discount too.
I wouldn’t normally rerun a 24 Hour Special but I’m going to make an exception this time for three reasons. #1 It’s not fair to people who couldn’t order due to problems with the script; #2 I am always happy to take more orders; and #3 I’m curious to see what happens. I have no idea how many new orders will come in and the only way to find out is to give it a try.
So the price has been rolled back to $100 for the next 24 hours. I’ll make another post about the 24 hour special too. In the meantime, here’s the previous post announcing the 24 Hour Special
