Over the weekend I finished reading Terry Dean’s book “Financial Freedom: A Step-by-Step Practical Guide for Walking in God’s Blessings.” It’s a great book I recommend you read. It’s not an easy read. It will make you stop & think but that’s a good thing. Too many people don’t think at all…but that’s another point.
On a few occasions I’ve tried to read the Bible but it’s not written in English I understand and it’s nothing but frustrating so I haven’t done much of it. Admittedly that’s a poor excuse but it’s the truth. A few years ago I ran across a Bible written in modern English and I still read it but it can be difficult to interpret the message sometimes.
That’s why I like Terry’s book. He quotes scriptures but he doesn’t stop there. He explains them in detail which I appreciate. Personally I never believed any of this nonsense that you have to live in poverty if you want to get to heaven. I always thought it was a bunch of BS and now Terry has written a book to prove it.
But there aren’t any shortcuts in the book either. It’s going to take diligent effort on your part to achieve financial success. Don’t expect any miracles. Lots of people waste their lives waiting for a miracle and missing their blessing by not noticing all the opportunity that surrounds them.
Don’t pray for money. Money is a temporary solution to a long-term problem. If you don’t understand how to earn money and how to best use it, you’ll just end of praying for more money in the future. Pray for wisdom. I’ve been saying the prayer on page 140 daily since I read it. If you have wisdom (and use it), you’ll have all the money you’ll ever need.

First, can you quote he prayer you reference.
I have read the bible, or most of it. Catholic School was good for that. It wasn’t until 20 years later that I found out that the bible was written without punctuation and only in one case - no upper case, lower case. That can change the meaning of so many phrases that I am not sure how to read it.
That said, there is a lot from the bible, or any book of a main religion, that can give you good direction to begin to follow. Do to others as you want done to you is the best one line to follow. In business you can see how a person wants a fair deal, just like you do. Clients want on time delivery, just like you do.
The list goes on and on.
[Richard,
Here it is:
Dear Father, please give me wisdom today. Teach me to think, speak, and act correctly. Keep my eyes open for opportunities to be blessed and to bless other people. Show me how to succeed today and how to do the best job I possibly can in everything I do. Reveal any of the foolish things I've been doing in my life to block your blessings. Teach me how every area of the Word of God applies to my daily life today. Open my ears to hear your voice today and give the strength to obey when you speak. Thank you Father for your wisdom, your blessings, and your divine favor in me today.

Terry’s book does look interesting. I’m glad it helped provide more clarity to you with respect to the bible.
Before I had a sincere desire in my heart to learn more about God’s word, I too found the bible a bit overwhelming.
But one day, I was at a point in my life that I really needed clarity about my life. And it was at this point, I searched for a bible that was an easier read.
As many of us aspire to be, do and have financial freedom and don’t stop when obstacles appear to accomplish that end, So it goes with Wanting to learn more about and have a relationship with God thru his words in the bible.
[Jen,
Thanks for the comment. Did you find the same version I found? The contemporary English version of the Bible for Today's Family?

I once had a pastor who said that too many people are so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good.
I don’t have a whole lot of use for the Bible from a “religious” standpoint. It’s meant to be applied and used.
Terry’s book is clear and quite refreshing. It’s not religious; it’s practical.
Thanks for your review, Robert, and as an owner of this book, I recommend it for anybody and everybody.

Great post, Robert. Thank you for being so frank. (”On a few occasions I’ve tried to read the Bible but it’s not written in English I understand and it’s nothing but frustrating so I haven’t done much of it.”)
Also, I commend you for praying that prayer and having the guts to post about it on your blog.
[Ryan,
Thanks for your comment. What can I say? I'm not perfect and I have no problem admitting it.
