Yesterday I shared something that doesn’t work to increase your Alexa ranking. It would be much more helpful if I shared something that does work to drive traffic to your site, wouldn’t it?
I already shared the results of my sidetracking experiment so there’s one way to drive traffic to your site. Here’s another way that works.
One day last month I created a free account at Reddit. It’s a site where you can submit blog posts are whatever else you want to submit and leave a comment about your submission. Reddit has an Alexa rank under 1,000 so it gets a ton of traffic. And by submitting a blog post with a link to your blog, you can steer some of that traffic in your direction.
I submitted a bunch of posts from my own blog all in one day and my traffic increased by over 50% from the previous day. The next day when I didn’t make any submissions to Reddit, my traffic was cut in half. So this definitely works.
The only problem is I’ve already submitted my blog posts so I wouldn’t do it again as repeatedly submitting my own posts would be spammy.
What would be better is if other people would submit my blog posts to Reddit. So here’s how we can help each other out. If you’ll submit one of my blog posts to Reddit, I’ll do the same for you. Even if you’ve never heard of Reddit, you can create a free account and submit a post in about three minutes. After you submit one of my blog posts, leave a comment with your blog and I’ll submit it to Reddit under my account. Simple as that.
Do you see the similarity between this and sidetracking? Both involve finding sites that get a lot of traffic and putting your site in the middle of it so that some of that traffic comes your way. Very simple and very effective.
