Are you a swiper? If you’re not when would now be a good time to start. We’ve always heard what a waste of time it is to “reinvent the wheel”. Whatever you’re trying to accomplish, it’s probably already been done before. Successful people understand the power of leverage and use it at every opportunity.
Just in the past week, I’ve swiped an order button and some html code. And today I used some code I swiped years ago to put an exit pop up on one of my sales letters.
It’s a pay per lead ad related to the product I’m selling (it has nothing to do with making money online) and it pays $22.50 per lead. Heck, that’s even more than I’m selling the product for in the first place.
Are you throwing money down the drain by not taking every opportunity to monetize your traffic? What about the thank you pages when someone subscribes to your list or even buys one of your products?
Don’t just say “thank you” and send them off into cyberspace so someone else can make them an offer. You make them an offer. You’ve already “sold” them in some way whether it was selling them on opting-in or selling them a product, it’s your obligation to present an offer for something they’ve shown interest in buying.
Now back to swiping. It’s true. I’ve ascended to new heights. I “swiped” a whole blog…kind of. I’ve been reading James Brausch’s blog for a few months now and he’s been on my a$$ to create a blog. Well, not me specifically. Everyone who reads his blog.
Well James, I finally did it. And I liked your blog so much I decided to model mine after yours. Hope you like it. If you’re not reading the James Brausch Internet Business Blog, you should be. It’s got some great information…and you might get a little sense of deja vu.
I wouldn’t expect him to remember but I actually met James in person several years ago in Spokane, WA, before he was famous. He was speaking at Kirt Christensen’s Customer Appreciation Seminar. He was pretty quiet but also approachable and willing to answer questions.
That’s probably one of the reasons I checked out his blog when I heard about it. He’s a real person to me, not just some guy on the Internet. And that’s a good reason to attend live events. Sure you’ll learn something from the speakers, but the best part is networking with like-minded people. It’s hard to really “know” someone until you meet them in person.
Would you like to create a blog but you’re not sure know how to do it? You may be in luck. I actually recorded myself “swiping” the James Brausch Internet Business Blog. I’ve got a 20 minute Camtasia video sitting on my hard drive. You can install the blog itself in about 2 clicks. It’s a bit more tricky to modify the theme to your liking but not real difficult.
I would have posted it already but I noticed when I was recording it there a few spots where some sensitive information appears on the screen…like the username & password to this blog. I don’t want that getting around. If I had known it was coming I would have paused the video.
There’s probably a way to just cut out that tiny section of the video but before I waste my time doing that I’d like to know if anyone really wants to see it. It’s not real difficult and it’s possible everyone already knows how to do it. Please leave a comment and let me know.
Oh and be on the look out for a video about one of the biggest scams on the Internet…and how you can avoid it. It’s coming soon.

F’n awesome. Love it. Good shit. Blah blah.
Bringing humor to a dull space you are.
Might as well post it. Perhaps James harping on people to get a blog and you giving them a video showing exactly how to do it will help those less technical figure it out and finally get a blog.
You actually copied his blog. That’s the Internet version of stealing. Do something original instead.
“That’s the Internet version of stealing. Do something original instead.”
The internet was built on stealing and hacking. Kinda like in the real world biz people do what is called “cheating” in school. Only, we call it collaboration.

Thank you for visiting.
Comments are welcome and I was expecting a comment like this.
Let me ask you this: Do thieves immediately contact their victims and say “Hey, I stold your [fill-in-the-blank]?”
I didn’t know if James would be flattered, pi$$ed, indifferent, or something else but he’s not shy about expressing his opinion. I immediately made him aware of my blog so I figured if he objected he would let me know.
If he asks me to change the theme I will. I may do it on my own. My first priority was just to get the darn thing up.
In any event, my decisions are not influenced by uninvolved third parties and I mean no disrespect to you.
Anyone who really cares can read James’ post here: New Blog Alert: CyberCa$hology
James is obviously aware of this blog, put a link to it on his blog, strongly recommends it, and provides a tip to improve it along with some other candid thoughts all of which I appreciate. I take this as implicit approval.
This will be my only comment on this topic. There are much more productive things to discuss than the theme and layout of my blog.
Congrats on your swiped blog.
[edited by Robert - Andrew I understand your frustration from my own firsthand experience but this is a no whine zone - i'm not calling you a whiner as you did state facts but they had nothing to do with me or this blog - please take your issues up with the individual to whom you referred.
Please note that I do publish comments critical of myself and my opinions (see the comment in this thread calling me a thief) but I will not serve as a conduit to take up customer service issues between you and a third party. Hope you understand.]
May you and your blog have a ton of success.
Hey Robert,
The resemblance is uncanny. Great job modeling success. I would LOVE to see your Camtasia on the process. Change the password information if you have to. Or, I’ll SWEAR never to use it. :0)

In the business world it’s called copyright infringement.
I have no idea who owns James blog design, but it’s uniquely his. And to blatantly copying it is wrong. As James said…why not just wear the Hawaiian shirt?
Justifying it as “that’s the way the Internet works” is beyond ridiculous.
No it is not beyon ridiculous. It is the net. The draw of the net is the uncivilized nature of it. I will take that over the alternative any day of the week.
Besides, most people behave. And, what really is the selling point of this way cool design (sarcasm). The content is the selling point. Not the design. I don’t think dude swiped content.
Editing videos in Camtasia is very easy.
To remove entire sections of your video you just highlight the section in the timeline and Edit/Cut. This feature should be used very aggressively in my opinion. It’s just plain rude to force viewers to sit and watch while files are slowly being uploaded to a server, or any other long running task that does not add any value to the video.
You can also blur parts of a page to hide sensitive information while keeping the rest of the page readable. Select Edit/Callouts and then add a Blur Callout.
