Submitting to External Publication List with Artemis Pro

I’m experiencing a challenge submitting to external publications with Artemis Pro and wondering if anyone has solved this challenge and can help me?  It has nothing to do with the software itself.

Here’s the situation.  I have a list of about 1,000 ezines.  I successfully submitted an article to these ezines with no problems on my part.  Very simple really.

However, the next day the ISP called to inquire about what they referred to as the spam I sent.  This is complete and utter nonsense because I’m sending articles to ezine publishers who have requested them but trying to explain that to the mammal brains at the ISP is a waste of time - commspeed.net is the ISP in case you’re wondering.

Even though my emails are perfectly legitimate, commspeed is not happy because I clogged up their mail servers.  Ultimately they said it would be OK to send 100 emails, wait 20 minutes then send 100 more, etc.  So that is an option but it will now require 3+ hours and 10 Artemis Pro sessions to submit an article…and even more as my external publication list grows.  That’s less than ideal.

So I’ve been trying to find an alternative solution.  I found several external smtp freewares.  The two I downloaded are Free SMTP Sever and ArGoSoft Mail Server.  I’m not a techie so I can’t get either of them to work.  I can’t figure out how to set them up.

Then I discovered you can use google as an external smtp server so I configured Outlook Express with my google account information.  I’m 100% positive I have smtp.google.com set up properly because I’m able to send test messages from Outlook Express that go through to the recipient’s mailbox.

However when I try to use smtp.google.com as the smtp server in Artemis Pro, the messages are not sent.  In the upper left-hand corner I see “Send (-49)”  I have no idea what that means but it must be some kind of error.

Contacting Artemis support apparently is not an option.  I’ve tried that but the support form requires a receipt number or something which I don’t have.  I bought Artemis Pro at discount during a sale promotion and it didn’t come with a receipt number or whatever they’re asking for so I guess that means it comes with no support.  I don’t like that but it doesn’t seem unusual to buy things at sale prices and not get support so I’ll just accept it.

Like I said, I’m not a techie but it may have something to do with the port.  It seems most smtp severs use port 25 but google uses port 465.  Maybe Artemis can’t connect because it’s using the wrong port…or Google is using the wrong port.  I guess it all depends on how you look at it.  In any event Artemis and Google are not “on the same page” so to speak.

Any ideas on how to get Artemis to work with the Google SMTP?

I recommend getting a Windows server from Ev1Servers.net or ServerMatrix. They both offer servers for about $100/month. Both ignore the occasional spam complaint (one or two per month) because they know that real spammers generate thousands of complaints per day.

You never want to send ANY email via your ISP now-a-days. That’s just asking to have your email trashed AND getting your ISP connection shut down for spamming.

I have no idea about using Google. I assume your ISP is going to try to block you from using any SMTP server other than their own. That’s a very common thing ISPs do in this war on spam.

Trying to get support for software without a receipt number; huh? Good luck with that. Why not just buy a copy? It doesn’t cost very much.

Thank you for your advice Mr. (or Mrs.) Anonymous. I appreciate your comments.

I think I figured it out though. As usual I’ve been trying to figure this out for days and within an hour after posting about it, I figured it out.

We’ll see if the ISP calls tomorrow but I didn’t use their SMTP server as far as I know so I think I’ll avoid harassment(sp?) and jail time.

And as far as buying the software…I did buy the software. I never got a receipt number with it though.

How did you get Artemis Pro to work with Google’s SMTP server? Or did you use a different one? I am dying to know.

      Thanks!

Thanks for your comment. I never did get Artemis to work with Google’s SMTP server. I got it to work with PostCast. See this post: http://www.cybercashology.com/?p=54
