SMTP Freeware

Don’t worry, I don’t know what SMTP stands for either but if you’ve been having issues submitting articles with Artemis Pro or Article Announcer, I may have found the solution.  It’s a solution that works for me.  It’s a freeware called PostCast.

Minutes after downloading it, I was submitting articles with both Artemis Pro and Article Announcer.  I’m not saying there’s a problem with either of these programs.  The problem was really with the stupid rules my ISP has about sending lots of messages even if the recipients asked for article submissions.

So I had to find a way to get around using the ISP to send email messages because it had blocked me from sending any messages at all.  I had downloaded a few other SMTP freewares but my technical knowledge is lacking so I couldn’t figure out how to set them up correctly.

PostCast was a breeze.  It basically set itself up.  The SMTP server name is a bit funky.  Instead of something like smtp.domain.com or mail.domain.com, my SMTP server is C610-RIT04DSW2 or something like that.  I had my doubts but when I typed that in as the SMTP server for both Artemis Pro and Article Announcer, it worked flawlessly.  Apparently my PC is now a mail server and that eliminates the hassles of dealing with the ISP and allows me to submit articles which is all I wanted to do in the first place.

      Robert, Nice one!
I am wondering how other folks got past possible ISP sp^m “false positives”. Yous is the first post i have seen on a working solution.

How many entries in your external file and how long does it take to send?

      Hi Mark,

My external file is about 600 at this point and I’d like it to be much larger. I’ve never tracked exactly how long it takes to send all the messages but I would say it takes Artemis Pro somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes to run.

    3. Hey Robert,

Thanks for the PostCast recommendation. I installed the free version and tried it out of the box. I’m getting a lot of failures/errors. Some do make it successfully, are you seeing the same thing? There isn’t anywhere to specify a SMTP user authentication, is there?

I’m using the free version too. If you’re talking about messages not being sent successfully, that happens to me too but it’s because some of the email addresses are not valid because some of the ezines are no longer published. I’m not sure about the SMTP user authentication.

PostCast basically set itself up when I installed it and I’m not real technically savvy…especially when it comes to email and SMTP servers.
