A few weeks ago I was at a friends lake house. We went out for breakfast and on the way back he stopped at the liquor store to buy the ingredients for Pina Coladas. His Pina Coladas are really good.
As we walked up to the cash register, I noticed a golf bag sitting there advertised for sale. I thought that was a bit odd at first, but when I thought about it a few seconds longer it made a lot of sense. A certain percentage of the store’s customers are also golfers. A golf bag doesn’t take up much space and it attracts attention situated near the cash register. There’s really nothing to lose and more revenue to gain by offering something else at the cash register. Why do you think grocery stores have all that candy and all those magazines at the check out line?
So what’s this got to do with making money online? A lot. All it really amounts to is making another offer to existing traffic. It’s a no-brainer. It doesn’t take much more effort and will increase sales. Here are few recent personal examples.
During a recent 48 Hour Special, I sent a reminder to my blog announcement list that the special would be ending soon. Someone placed an order within 10 minutes and 3 more orders came in before a half hour had passed. I’ll be sending out a reminder for all future specials.
Then I realized I had a few other lists that might be interested in the offer so I sent them a broadcast message and made more sales. Are you taking advantage of all the opportunities you have to make a sale? Or are you making the same mistakes I was and costing yourself sales? You won’t ever get a date with that pretty girl if you don’t ask…and you won’t make sales to people who don’t know about your offer.
