Here’s a recent headline from the local newspaper: “SPD will Tempolimit von 130 km/h auf Autobahnen durchsetzen” Entschuldigen Sie bitte? (Excuse me please?) I speak very little German so that headline was gibberish to me until I used one of those handy tools that translates languages. Copy, click, and quickly it’s translated into English so I can make some sense of it. It says: “The SPD will enforce a speed limit of 130 km/h on the highways” Yeah, right. Good luck with that. Have you seen how fast Germans drive?
Tools are great. When used properly they can do simple things like translate languages. In the right hands tools can make beautiful music, help you build a successful Internet business, and lots of other things. The tools of music are instruments like guitars, harmonicas, drums, violins, tubas, flutes, etc. Which tools you need depends on what type of music you intend to create. There are lots of different types of music: jazz, classical, blues, rock & roll, etc. You probably won’t use tubas and flutes to make rock & roll but you’ll need them for a symphony.
The same holds true for building an Internet business. There are lots a ways to make money online. Are you going to create your own products or sell products as an affiliate? Or are you not even going to sell products and just focus on AdSense or CPA ads? Will you use AdWords to drive traffic to your sites? Or are you a wiz at building high-ranking, high-traffic sites? The answers to those simple questions determine the type of Internet business you intend to build and the tools you’ll need to build it.
But you need more than tools. You need to learn how to use the tools effectively. Put those tools in unskilled hands and the results aren’t likely to be good. Give Jimmy Page a guitar and you get “Stairway to Heaven.” Give Eric Clapton a guitar and you get “Layla.” Give me a guitar and you get noise. Same tool. Different results. Anyone as good with a guitar as Eric Clapton or Eddie Van Halen or Jimmy Page has spent at least 10,000 hours perfecting their skills as a guitar player. Their dedication to mastering that skill has made them rich & famous.
The same principle applies to using the tools to build an Internet business. Put Nemeas, Munius, Relusi, Trafficopia, Artemis Pro, Hermusa, and RaSof in the hands of someone who knows how to use them and the result is a 6 or even 7 figure per year Internet business. On the other hand, give the same tools to someone who isn’t willing to put forth the time and effort to learn how to use them correctly and you’re likely to get an Internet business that earns little or nothing. Same tools. Different results.
Unsuccessful people either don’t understand this fact or refuse to accept it. They’ll blame the tools, the people who sold them the tools, the economy, and who knows what else. But the way they see it, there’s clearly something other than themselves to blame. It’s not their fault. It’s ridiculous if you think about it but it happens every day. That’s why most people aren’t successful. Their lack of dedication and determination results in mediocrity.
So if you have the same tools other people are using to build 6 or 7 figure Internet businesses and you aren’t achieving the same results, wake up and smell the coffee. Something’s amiss. Maybe the tools are just taking up space on your hard drive. Lots of people make themselves feel like they’re doing something by buying tools they never use. Others quit when the first obstacle appears and start blaming other things. But if you’ve got all the tools you need and aren’t getting the desired results, don’t blame the tools. Blame the person using the tools. Figure out what’s wrong and fix it.
