Terry Dean’s blog has a new look and a new free giveaway.
Recently he gave away some Jay Abraham tapes, now he’s giving away Dan Kennedy tapes. I like to listen to tapes on road trips. I’ll listen to them while I’m driving. I also sometimes put a tape or CD in to my tape player when I go to bed. I don’t know if there’s any truth to the claim that your subconscious mind learns while you sleep but I sleep like a rock so the sound doesn’t disturb me and I like to absorb as much Dan Kennedy knowledge as possible. I like his books and his No B.S. Marketing Letter.
Here’s a recent post Terry made: Why My Hard Drive “Disaster” Was Good News
There’s a good lesson in there so you can go read it but I noticed the bad experience he had with HP customer support and it brought back bad memories. I’m extremely slow to criticize but HP customer support is the worst of the worst.
I had an HP laptop crash one month before the warranty expired and they flat out refused to fix it even though it was still under warranty. Not only that but they promised to have my computer back to me within something like 10 business days and I didn’t get it back for 6 weeks…still broken. After failing to call me as promised, I was forced to call them and experience long hold times before I ever got to speak to anyone.
On two occasions the first words out of their mouth were something like this: “We noticed you’ve spilled something on your keyboard. It will be $100 to fix that. What credit card would you like to use?” I can appreciate the use of the assumptive close, but there wasn’t anything wrong with my keyboard…how about fixing what’s broken before trying the upsell?
They strung me along until the warranty expired and then told me they wouldn’t fix my PC because it was not under warranty. I escalated the issue three times until I was told I couldn’t escalate the issue to a higher level. Bottom line. In my personal experience, HP does not honor their agreements and I will never buy another computer from them again. You can do what you want.
I’ve gotten over this a long time ago but I haven’t forgotten and Terry’s post reminded me of my unpleasant experience. Treat your customers like crap and they’ll probably become ex-customers and share their experience with others. What kind of “word of mouth” advertising are you getting from your customers
