We’re often told to think before we act. Think about what? The consequences? That’s good advice…and it takes about two seconds. I like the Willie Mays quote: “If it’s not my life and it’s not my wife, who cares?” I don’t have a wife so it it’s not my life who cares? There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain.
So what if you fail? Congratulations. You’ve just discovered a way that doesn’t work. As long as you learn from your mistakes and don’t repeat them, you’re more likely to succeed when you try again. What’s wrong with that? It’s a positive outcome. Adopt the Thomas Edison mentality: “I have not failed. I have found 10,000 ways that don’t work.”
Thinking is one of the most common excuses cited by losers. If you dig deeper it’s usually some type of fear (fear of failure, fear of criticism, etc.) that’s the real reason for not taking action. The thinking is used as a mask to cover up the fear. People don’t like to admit to fear so they’ll say they’re thinking or planning or whatever. It’s nothing more than a lame excuse. Mark Twain said: “I’ve had a lot of worries in my life most of which never happened.”
What does Napoleon Hill say in his best-selling book? “Do not wait; the time will never be “just right.” Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.” In other words quit making excuses and get your butt moving.
Have you seen Dan Kennedy’s latest release, “The Phenomenon”? It’s a video full of stories about people he’s helped earn more in the last 12 months than they had in the past 12 years. It identifies the commonalities of these successful entrepreneurs. One of them is that these people got started before they were ready. That means less thinking and more action. You can figure out the details as you move forward.
